CUHWC Trip to Snowdonia, November 1998

It was a weekend trip. We stayed in a bunkhouse in Gwern Gof Isaf. From there we had a nice view at Tryfan (915m) which can be seen in the background to the right.

We had two days for walking and split ourselves into small groups so that everyone could choose a route s/he liked.

First Day: Glyder Fawr (999m)

Here is the route that I joined on the first day. It is marked by a blue line; we were going anticlockwise; grid lines are drawn at 1 km distance. The round blobs on the route (in this case four) denote the places where the photos were taken.

First we drove along a road and then we had a walk southwards along lake Llyn Idwal.

As you see it was quite windy even at the bottom of a mountain.

Enrolling the trip I didn't know what `scramble' means in English; I thougt it is some derivative of `ramble' so hadn't paid attention to the word scramble in the route plan. Suddenly I was told by Hilary that to `scramble' is to climb a wall like the one on the photo.

It is a hard way to learn English but very efficient: now I will never forget this verb!

Another picture with a view on Tryfan.

Second Day: Snowdon (1085m)

Here the route of the second day: we were walking clockwise and on our way back we used a part of the same path as coming.

We arrive at a path-fork... The map will show us the right way!

No, we don't choose the right way: we turn left...

With a bit of luck we climb Snowdow! Unluckily the mist is so thick that nothing can be seen from there.

Nobody fancied a swim but we found a more exciting entertainment: throwing stones into the water!
